01 / PLATFORM OVERVIEW

AR-15 pattern rifle

A modular, small-frame rifle architecture built around upper and lower receiver assemblies. Receiver pattern, barrel, gas system, bolt group, buffer system, magazine, sighting system, and accessories must be evaluated as a connected configuration.

INTERFACE REVIEW

Confirm receiver-extension fit, retention, user fit, and current configuration law.

RESEARCH STARTING POINTS

Public technical orientation—not assembly instruction. Exact dimensions, interfaces, specifications, service procedures, and lawful configuration are model and jurisdiction dependent. Use current manufacturer documentation and a qualified armorer or gunsmith where appropriate.

02 / PLATFORM-SPECIFIC FIELD STRIP

AR-15 field strip

A small-frame AR normally separates at the takedown pins so the charging handle and bolt-carrier group can be removed for routine inspection and cleaning. The carrier may be broken down only to the level authorized by the current manual.

PREPARATION & TOOLS
  • Clear bench with a parts tray
  • Eye protection
  • Cleaning kit and lint-free cloths
  • Non-marring punch only if a captive pin is unusually tight

Remove ammunition and verify clear

Keep the muzzle in a safe direction. Remove the magazine first, lock the bolt to the rear, and verify the chamber, bolt face, and magazine well visually and physically. Move all live ammunition away from the work area.

CONFIRM BEFORE CONTINUING
  • Magazine removed
  • Bolt locked open
  • Chamber, bolt face, and magazine well independently checked
PLATFORM CAUTION

Do not rely on the selector, a chamber flag, or another person’s statement in place of your own unloading verification.

MODEL VARIATIONS & COMMON MISTAKESEXPAND +
  • Direct-gas versus short-stroke piston operating groups
  • Side-charging and captured-recoil systems
  • Caliber-conversion bolts and dedicated rimfire uppers
  • Folding-stock adapters and proprietary takedown systems
MANUFACTURER MANUAL CONTROLS

This guide is a platform-level orientation to ordinary field stripping only. Before disassembly, use the manufacturer’s current manual for the exact make, model, caliber or gauge, generation, configuration, specifications, safety instructions, and function-check sequence. Stop if the firearm differs from the description, a part resists normal hand pressure, or damage is suspected. Detailed bolt, trigger, firing-pin, extractor, ejector, gas-system, magazine-tube, headspace, timing, or fitted-component work belongs to a qualified armorer or gunsmith.

04 / RECOMMENDED RESEARCH

Brands & manufacturers.

Editorial starting points for model-specific research—not universal rankings, guarantees, or substitutes for compatibility review.

05 / APPLICATION

Use-case notes.

  • Range and recreational configuration
  • Competition-oriented configuration
  • Field or hunting configuration where lawful
  • General-purpose or property-defense configuration where lawful

Use cases describe planning contexts only. The complete configuration, user, environment, and applicable law control suitability.
