Headspace as a safety concept
Understand the term and why evaluating it belongs to qualified inspection.
What the word describes
Headspace describes the relationship between the closed bolt face and a specified reference surface in the chamber. The reference depends on the cartridge design. It is a dimensional safety concept, not a visible gap that a photograph or a visual parts configurator can validate.

The book repeatedly connects this issue to the relationship between the chamber and bolt. Incorrect dimensions can create dangerous conditions. Its larger lesson is that a component can appear to fit without establishing that the completed firearm is safe.
Questions for a qualified professional
Ask the manufacturer or qualified gunsmith whether the firearm requires inspection, which exact model documentation applies, and how the outcome will be recorded. This guide does not provide gauge selection, inspection sequences, tolerances, or corrective machining instructions.
A catalog match or a convincing visual rendering cannot certify headspace or safe mechanical condition.
