Handguards, rails, and sighting vocabulary
Separate the names and roles of the handguard, accessory interface, iron sights, and optic.
Handguard and rail are different terms
A handguard surrounds part of the barrel area and provides the forward hand interface. A rail describes an accessory attachment interface. The book contrasts traditional two-piece handguards with free-float designs and discusses an added rail separately. These distinctions help identify what a product description is actually naming.

Iron sights and an optical sight are different sighting systems. A reticle is the aiming reference seen through an optic. Eye relief describes the viewing distance associated with an optic. The book discusses backup sights and scopes in separate chapters; learning those terms does not establish installation geometry or a verified zero.
Read illustrations as illustrations
The book shows particular parts on particular examples. A product photograph can identify appearance, but does not establish actual scale, orientation, clearance, or mounting suitability on another model. Keep that distinction in mind when viewing a digital configuration.
Use the right component names. Treat drawings and photographs as visual references, not evidence of installed fit.
